‘Mansion Tax’ Compromise Reached
Instead of bumping the real estate transfer tax on luxury property sales from 0.75% to 2.65%, Mayor Brandon Johnson has agreed to a three-tiered graduated tax system. The generated revenue would still go toward helping unhoused Chicagoans. The compromise measure is expected to be formally introduced in City Council next month. [Sun-Times]
