Robert Crimo Jr. Pleads Guilty

Minutes before his trial was set to begin, the father of the alleged Highland Park parade shooter pleaded guilty to seven misdemeanor counts of reckless conduct. The 59-year-old was accused of helping his son obtain firearms before last year’s fatal Fourth of July mass shooting. [WGN]

City Council Floor Leader Leaves Post

Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, 35th Ward, resigned from the position and as zoning committee chair following what he called a “disrespectful interaction” with Ald. Emma Mitts, 37th Ward, at a contentious meeting last week about a referendum on whether Chicago should remain a sanctuary city. Some alders have also accused Ramirez-Rosa of threatening to block zoning changes in their wards. [WTTW]

Chicago No. 1 Corrupt City … Again

That’s according to a report by University of Illinois Chicago, which found that almost 40 alders have been indicted in the last 50 years. But corruption across the country, including in Illinois, has gradually been on the decline for decades.
