What's CITY Talking About?
City Institutes 60-Day Shelter Limit for Migrants
Mayor Brandon Johnson’s new policy went into effect last week: Newly arrived migrants will only be allowed to stay 60 days at the city’s shelters — except in extenuating circumstances such as a medical crisis or extreme cold. Fifty asylum-seekers who had been staying at the city’s shelters for over a year were given notice Friday, and 12,000 others were given week- or month-long extensions. [WBEZ]
What’s Happening in Illinois’ Youth Jails?

Recent audits found facilities are overusing confinement, conducting unnecessary strip searches, and failing to provide adequate education and mental health resources for detainees as young as 10.
