Migrant Shelter Evictions Update

Only three migrants were evicted from the city’s shelters over the weekend as the city began to enforce the 60-day shelter limit. More than 30 other migrants who were expected to be removed were given extensions. Most had been applying for public benefits, and a few were pregnant or had a disability. [City Cast Chicago 🎧]

Grant Park’s Busy Summer Schedule

Between May 15 and Aug. 17, Grant Park is set to be booked for 73 days with events like Sueños, NASCAR, and Lollapalooza. That is 11 days fewer than 2023. [Block Club]

Where to Find Zeppole, Italian Pastry

Looking for a post–primary day treat? Tuesday also marks Saint Joseph’s Day, which means some Italian Americans are looking to eat the deep-fried dough filled with custard, cream, or jelly. Luckily, Chicagoland bakeries are selling the treat this week. [Eater]

Whether you’re waiting in line to vote or have already cast your ballot, Hey Chicago has an election trivia quiz testing how well you know local elections of past and present. Here is the first Q.

Why did the Tribune erroneously print Thomas Dewey defeated former President Harry Truman in the 1948 presidential election?

  • Dewey had won the popular vote
  • Voter fraud interfered with the results of the election
