🚉 New CTA schedules. Same CTA
April 11, 2024
Why, hello! I’m City Cast Director of Production, Natalie Rivera, filling in for Sidney Madden. But before we get into it, did you know the Speciality Coffee Expo is happening this weekend? While mostly aimed at business experts, it kind of makes sense Chicago’s hosting it given there are so many great places to get an espresso here. What’s your favorite? Reply to this email and let us know.

What's CITY Talking About?
Vote in Local School Council Elections
You can still vote in this week’s elections for Local School Councils taking place in more than 600 CPS schools. Voting for elementary schools was yesterday, and elections for high schools are happening today. Every Chicago resident can cast a vote between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. today. [Chalkbeat]

The ‘Best Chicago-Style Pizza’ is … in California?
Yelp has crowned Heirloom Pizza Co. in Monterey, California as having the “best Chicago-style pizza.” The business review site determined the ranking by compiling a list of pizza restaurants in the U.S. and Canada with reviews that mentioned “Chicago style pizza,” “Chicago-style pizza,” and “deep dish pizza,” and ranking them based on their Yelp reviews. Our very own Michael’s Original Pizzeria & Tavern did come in at no. 10 so … thanks, Yelp? [NBC Chicago]

CTA Slow to Fulfill Promise of More Service
Remember back in February when CTA president Dorval Carter promised service would return to pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2024? According to new train schedules that took effect Sunday, CTA hasn’t made much movement on that promise. Transit officials say the agency is still working to add service, and schedule updates are expected through the summer. [🔒 Tribune]

Why Chicago Pride Parade Will Be Smaller This Year
From an earlier start time to fewer floats and marchers, the Chicago Pride Parade is making some changes this year to scale down the event. The city notified organizers last month about concerns around its capacity to safely manage large summer events. The parade, which is considered one of the oldest and largest of its kind in the U.S., had increased security last year due to rising attacks against the LGBTQ+ community. [Block Club]
