Burke’s 2-Year Sentence and $2M Fine

Former 14th Ward Ald. Ed Burke was sentenced Monday to two years in prison and he has to pay a $2 million fine. He was convicted in the winter for using his longtime power in City Council to enrich his business, intimidate his opponents, and uphold Chicago’s infamous political machine. [City Cast Chicago 🎧]

High-Profile Philanthropist, County Commissioner Die

Philanthropist Ann Lurie — who built the Streeterville children’s hospital named after her — died at age 79 after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Cook County Commissioner Dennis Deer died at age 51. His cause of death has not been revealed. [WGN]
