City Council Votes to Save ShotSpotter
Alders voted 33–14 Wednesday to approve an effort to save the gunshot detection technology. The ordinance gives Police Supt. Larry Snelling the power to directly secure a deal with the company. The contract is set to expire Sunday. [WTTW]

CPS 5-Year Plan Approved
The Chicago Board of Education approved the district’s five-year plan Wednesday. In addition to encouraging students to attend neighborhood schools, the plan also seeks to address chronic absenteeism and to increase state reading and math scores. [Chalkbeat]
