Latest Trump Cuts Could Affect Viewers Like You
President Donald Trump ordered the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to halt all funding to PBS and NPR last week. In Chicago, that could put $1.5 million at stake for WBEZ and $3.7 million for WTTW. (Roughly 5% and 11% of their budgets, respectively.) However, the legality of Trump’s move is in question as Congress controls that federal funding. [WBEZ]
Chicago Photojournalist Steve Lasker Dies at 93 — See His Work
Steve Lasker, a Hyde Park native and lifelong photojournalist, died last week at age 91. Throughout his career, he shot up-close photos of historic moments, including visits to Chicago by Martin Luther King, Jr. and President John F. Kennedy. He was also the first photographer on the scene at the deadly Our Lady of Angels Catholic School fire in 1958. See the stills that earned him his “golden eye” reputation. [Tribune 🔒]
