🤔 Progress at Lincoln Yards?

July 11, 2025 · — Emmi Mack

Hey sailors! Who can get me on the Miller Lite boat? I mean this seriously. I see it in the distance every time I hit the lake, its tantalizing sails beckoning gently over the horizon as if to say, “It’s Miller Time.”

SNAP Cuts, Firefighters, and Lightning Bugs

Chicago has questions. How will federal cuts impact food assistance in Illinois? Why are some Chicago firefighters resisting a policy change about when to enter burning buildings? Lincoln Yards Project Changes Shape — For Real

Lincoln Yards is (mostly) no more. The northern 31 acres of the site could soon become Foundry Park: a new residential enclave with 3,000 units and a markedly different design plan. After failing to construct its envisioned megadevelopment, developer Sterling Bay forfeited that parcel. JDL Development and Kayne Anderson Real Estate are acquiring the land, with construction expected to begin in a year. [Sun-Times]

South Deering Speaks Out Against Stinky Oil Plant

A vegetable oil plant in South Deering has stunk up the neighborhood for decades. Now, local officials are pushing for more air and emissions testing at the site and hoping for a more long-term solution. Ald. Peter Chico (10th) will host a town hall for updates soon. [Block Club]

This Week’s Must-Read

My uncle John Mack died suddenly in 2020 — it was a shock made more painful by the fact that our family could not be physically together. But on Father’s Day 2025, in northwest suburban Chain O’ Lakes, his waterlogged wallet from the 1980s washed ashore. John and his wife Ginny spent those years raising their boys there, on the water in Johnsburg, and loved taking out the boat. (Ginny drove.) Now, all this time later, we feel that John is saying hello. [Northwest Herald]
