🍔 Chicago’s new ‘Cheeseburger Row’
August 7, 2025 · — Emmi Mack
CHEEZBORGER! CHEEZBORGER! CHEEZBORGER! Armitage Avenue is turning into (what I’m calling) “Cheesburger Row” in Logan Square. As a resident, I’m not complaining. And I obviously had to try all the burgers on the block.
That food adventure is documented in today’s newsletter, as well as more essential rules for living in the city and, of course, your daily news.
🍔 Let’s get chompin’!

What Chicago's Talking About
Texas Democrats in Illinois Evacuate After Bomb Threat
The Texas lawmakers left their state to prevent a new Congressional district map. But on Wednesday, the suburban Illinois hotel where they were staying received a bomb threat. Four-hundred people were evacuated, but no bomb was found. [The Hill]

How Medicaid Cuts Will Squeeze Illinois Hospitals
After federal Medicaid cuts, an estimated 330,000 Illinoisans will lose coverage, which threatens safety net hospitals’ ability to stay open. About 70% of inpatients at Sinai Chicago are Medicaid patients, while Holy Cross and Schwab receive more than 93% of revenue from Medicaid and Medicare. While not a safety net hospital, the University of Chicago Medical Center receives the most in Medicaid revenue: $679.8 million annually. [WTTW]
Pritzker Riffs with Colbert, Shoots Malört
Gov. JB Pritzker stopped by “Late Night” for an interview with Stephen Colbert that ran the gamut from Texas redistricting to whether President Donald Trump would send Pritzker to “the gulag” to Illinois’ tradition of felon governors. And, not for the first time, Pritzker did a televised shot of Malört. [Sun-Times, YouTube: ColbertLateShow ]
