The new surge in federal immigration raids in Chicago has a name: “Operation Midway Blitz.” The increased operations in and around Chicago are expected to last more than a month. Federal agents are bunking at the Great Lakes naval base in North Chicago. [Block Club]
El Grito Rescheduled — This Time in Pilsen
The Mexican Independence Day celebration is now rescheduled for a single day in Pilsen: Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church. El Grito Chicago was originally supposed to take place this weekend, over two days in Grant Park, but was postponed due to safety fears related to immigration enforcement. [Sun-Times]

Homeless Encampments Razed in Legion Park
The Chicago Park District tore down structures housing 15 to 20 people in Legion Park Tuesday. The Park District says residents were warned of the plan at the beginning of August, but some were still packing bags the day bulldozers arrived. The decision to remove the encampments came following three fires in the area this summer. [ABC 7]
