Trump Calls for Imprisonment of Pritzker, Johnson

In a post, President Donald Trump said Mayor Brandon Johnson and Gov. JB Pritzker should be jailed for “failing to protect” immigration officers. Both leaders responded on X, emphasizing that they’re not backing down. Pritzker also called out Trump’s path to “full-blown authoritarianism.” [NBC 5]

Judge Rules Slate of ICE Arrests Illegal

A federal judge has ruled that ICE illegally arrested over 20 people around the Midwest early this year. A 2022 consent decree limits how federal agents can make warrantless arrests. Now, attorneys are saying the recent high-profile arrest of a family at Millennium Park violated the same decree. [Block Club]

Chicago's Tonika Lewis Johnson Wins Genius Grant

Englewood native Tonika Lewis Johnson is now a MacArthur Fellow. (The honor includes an $800,000 prize.) Johnson’s past work includes the Folded Map project, exploring segregation, and Inequity for Sale, which uses public landmark signs to show how mid-century contract buying practices targeted Black Chicagoans.
