🥃 Cheers to South Side cocktail lounges

February 6, 2026 · — Emmi Mack

Hut hut hike, Chicago! Heading into Super Bowl weekend, I imagine many of you already feel done with this football season … but you’re still tuning in for the halftime show.

Luckily, Chicago’s got you covered with events. There’s a Benito Bowl watch party at Ramova Theatre in Bridgeport; a Bad Bunny watch party at Bar Sol at Navy Pier; and a massive Latinx watch party in Melrose Park … or you could just hit a bar in Humboldt Park 😉

Check out more weekend events below, plus the latest headlines and this week’s news quiz!

What's CITY Talking About

South Shore Immigration Raid Had Landlord’s OK

Newly released court records show the building’s owner and manager gave “verbal and written consent” for the September operation where immigration agents descended from a Blackhawk helicopter, broke down doors, and zip-tied citizens and immigrants. The Trump administration tried to justify the raid by tying residents to a Venezuelan gang without evidence. But the records show the raid was prompted by allegations of squatting. [ProPublica]

Today We’re Talking Food

From Legler Library to Kennedy-King College, local institutions are working to make food more accessible. Freelance journalist Chasity Cooper and Block Club’s Atavia Reed break down what’s going on at these site-specific food pantries. Plus, they explore the South Side’s lounge culture and … *checks notes* … caviar McNuggets? [City Cast Chicago 🎧]

Ayo and Others Out in Bulls Trade Shakeup

In a rush to Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, the Bulls traded Illini alum Ayo Dosunmu to the Portland Timberwolves. Many expiring contracts mean it’s been a busy trade season for Chicago. [Tribune 🔒]

This Week’s Must-Read

While the country’s focus shifted to immigration operations in Minneapolis, Chicago is still reeling from “Operation Midway Blitz.” It’s no more apparent than in Little Village, the city’s “Mexican Magnificent Mile,” where once-bustling streets now resemble a “ghost town.” [BBC]
