💔 The worst dates we’ve ever been on
February 12, 2026 · — Emmi Mack
What’s the worst date you’ve ever been on? The question might trigger battlefield flashbacks but on today’s podcast, we’re getting into it. In addition to our own (horror) stories, we hit the streets to see what locals have to say about Chicago’s dating scene — and what advice they have for getting out there ahead of Valentine’s Day.

What's CITY Talking About
New Evidence May Show Feds Lied About Brighton Park Shooting
After an immigration agent shot Marimar Martinez five times, federal officials said Border Patrol had been “boxed in” by vehicles including hers. That’s not true according to Martinez’ lawyer. He says video evidence disproves a diagram agents drew of the scene. [Sun-Times]

Do You Smell Something?
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is investigating reports of a chemical odor across Chicagoland. Neighbors across Rogers Park, Lakeview, Logan Square, Hyde Park, Beverly, and Skokie have posted complaints — Indiana and Wisconsin are experiencing it too. One Chicagoan described the odor as “wet dog and burnt plastic.” [Block Club]
Self-Driving Cars Could Come to Chicago
First food delivery robots, now self-driving cars? State Rep. Kam Buckner has sponsored a pilot program that would allow Waymo to begin servicing Cook County over a three-year period. However, some worry about safety issues and the potential impact on professional drivers. [WTTW]

Neighborhood Shoutouts
Neighborhood Shoutouts come from City Cast Chicago Neighbors. It’s a perk that lets members show love to their favorite business and orgs. And for you Valentine’s lovebirds, today’s Neighborhood Shoutout doubles as a potential breakfast date!
