Chicago’s parking meter sale — aka the worst deal ever — was forged in secrecy. Seventeen years later, so are present-day efforts to alter it. In November, Mayor Brandon Johnson opted not to buy the meters back. Now, as the entity that controls the meters attempts to offload them to a New York-based firm, alders are demanding transparency. New Grocery Store Coming to West Pullman

The nonprofit Far South Community Development Corporation has received a grant from the city to begin plans on a new grocery store in West Pullman. When Aldi closed there in 2024, it left the area without a local grocery store. According to a press release, the new store will sit at the former Aldi site and open in spring 2027. [Far South CDC]
